The internet is a place where we get to learn a lot of stuff.
These days you can learn how to fix (insert whatever it is that you want to fix here) over on the hyper fast net
In villages, many where internet has just come to life, it has given birth to innovative methods of generating electricity, waste disposal etc.
In the cities, it tells me where Rajesh is exactly so that I can time my lift just in accordance to his exact arrival and be on my way to another day at the office.
So in short internet has helped us quite a lot, to know exactly how much it has helped you can google - 'advancements due to the internet'
In this post, I wanted to touch up on a rather dark side of themoon internet.
Well, again this also has been discussed extensively through many articles and ted talks, one of which is this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C74amJRp730
- Digress ends here -
One of the things that the internet does is, it makes me not want to call people to ask for advice but rather first rely on the ratings presented to me online.
And every place seems to be killing it, mind you.
In my mind I have already passed that predicament about whether a place or a service is good or not based on the number of ★
So, unlike what I assume must have happened in the past when word of mouth trumped all other forms of advertisements, people used to interact with each other more often.
Before,
"Where can I get my bloody tooth pain fixed"
"Dude, take the third left from this street and on the roundabout ask for Mishraji"
Now,
"Ok, google tooth clinic"
"Here is what I found, in my opinion, you should avoid Dr. Mishraji, Mishraji no pay me money for SEO"
Mr.Robot Net pushes us to rely on its algorithm. It gives us the feeling that we are already in talks with an expert companion. Why then, bother to be meeting people to and ask what they think or would like to suggest?
I am not going to add a "We should all" followed by Gyaan (knowledge) statement here. You get the point I know it.
Disclaimer: Algorithm is a word I use to make me sound all intelligent and stuff.
